Water is a great necessity that we often take for granted – and wastewater treatment an even greater one. Without the modern day wastewater treatment process, we would be left with no usable drinking water in a matter of days. But how did this process even get started, and what would happen if we ditched it altogether?

Wastewater treatment is the process of removing impurities from water. This process helps to remove everything from organic wastes to metals left behind in our water system – all before releasing it back into the local environment.

Before wastewater treatment became what it is today, many ancient cities had drainage systems focused on keeping water off urban landscapes, such as roofs and pavement. It wasn’t until the early 19th century, when the toilet was first invented, that it soon became evident that a public sewage system would be required in order to keep everyone safe from pollution and deadly bacterias, such as cholera. Today, the wastewater system serves much of the same purpose – for both commercial and industrial usage.

Without our current wastewater treatment system, pollutant levels would have a massive, negative impact on the entire ecosystem – first impacting local aquatic life, and later resulting in a loss of oxygen levels, also known as oxygen depletion. With all this, it’s safe to say that our current system of wastewater treatment is essential in order to keep our local, and global ecosystems safe.

At Environmental Remedies, we pride ourselves on always treating non-hazardous industrial wastewater the right way. We achieve this in a number of ways. One way is by conducting pre-qualification testing to ensure compatibility with our system. We take it a step further by continuing to test, track and monitor the wastewater as it moves through our treatment system. We do this not only to maintain governmental discharge standards for our effluent and compliance with our discharge permit but also because we are committed to sustainable practices.

Our sustainability commitment is to protect our surrounding communities, the environment and to reduce landfill usage. To achieve this we  have made it our mission to recycle more than 97% of the materials we receive at our facility and operate our Centralized Waste Treatment facility in a manner that meets the pertinent governmental criteria.
